There are no handrails and the stones can be uneven, so wear sturdy shoes and avoid walking up there if you are afraid of heights.
Lose yourself within the compact walls of Óbidos, wandering the busy Rue Direta to discover history tucked into every bougainvillea-covered corner. Be sure to visit the Church of Misericórdia to admire its stunning *azulejos* and explore the Arco da Cadeia, a former medieval prison now serving as a museum.
Take a short detour beyond the main walls to see the Igreja de São João Baptista, which houses a beautiful collection of sacred art, and the unique baroque Santuário do Senhor da Pedra. The easiest and most direct way to arrive from Lisbon is by taking the Rodotejo "Rapida Verde" bus from the Campo Grande station, which drops you right outside the main gate.
Cars are severely restricted inside the town walls, so prepare to navigate entirely on foot. The cobblestones are notoriously uneven, so leave the heels in your suitcase.
